The dissociation of visuospatial neglect and neglect dyslexia.

چکیده
A right-handed man with a left hemisphere lesion extending into the right hemisphere, with evidence of both a left-sided neglect dyslexia and right-sided visuospatial neglect is reported. When copying simple geometric designs he omitted to copy figures on the right-hand side of the page, when bisecting lines he tended to bisect the line to the left of the line's actual centre. He had a neglect dyslexia which was characterised by paralexic errors affecting the beginning (that is, left) of words. The occurrence of these two phenomena provides evidence of a dissociation of these forms of neglect. The findings are discussed in relation to the possible mechanisms of unilateral neglect.

Applying neuroanatomical distinctions to connectionist cognitive modelling
We show examples of how low-level, qualitative neuroanatomical hemispheric differences can give rise to detailed psychologically realistic behaviour. We illustrate this claim with examples from the cognitive modelling of unilateral visuospatial neglect and neglect dyslexia. Our models are based on two principles: the division of information processing between the two hemispheres; and the implem...
متن کاملNeglect dyslexia with a stimulus-centred deficit and without visuospatial neglect.
This paper reports a single case of ipsilesional left neglect dyslexia and interprets it according to the three-level model of visual word recognition proposed by Caramazza and Hillis (1990). The three levels reflect a progression from the physical stimulus to an abstract representation of a word. RR was not impaired at the first, retinocentric, level, which represents the individual features o...
متن کاملOculographic analysis of word reading in hemispatial neglect.
Neglect dyslexia is a disorder in which individuals misread text appearing on the contralateral side of space following an acquired lesion, usually to the right parietal lobe. This disorder is generally attributed to an impairment in representing spatial information. To determine whether the spatial representations underlying reading differ from those mediating other forms of visual behavior, w...
متن کاملDissociations between developmental dyslexias and attention deficits
We examine whether attention deficits underlie developmental dyslexia, or certain types of dyslexia, by presenting double dissociations between the two. We took into account the existence of distinct types of dyslexia and of attention deficits, and focused on dyslexias that may be thought to have an attentional basis: letter position dyslexia (LPD), in which letters migrate within words, attent...
متن کاملDevelopmental neglect dyslexia in a Hebrew-reading child.
This paper describes for the first time a detailed study of a child with neglect dyslexia. NT is 10-year-old child, with left word-based neglect dyslexia, without clinical signs of visuo-spatial neglect. Since he is a native speaker of Hebrew, which is read from right to left, his neglect dyslexia manifests in omissions and substitutions of final letters. He is severely impaired in single words...
